Answer sheet evaluation
AI answer sheet evaluation for schools
Scan a class set of handwritten answer sheets. Classi reads every answer, marks it against your own marking scheme, and writes feedback for each student. The teacher reviews it all before anything goes back to the class.
Why paper checking takes so long
Checking answer sheets is slow because the hard part is reading the paper, not adding up the marks. A teacher works out which answer belongs to which question, follows a student's working across the page, judges whether a half-labelled diagram earns its mark, and applies the same standard to the fortieth paper as to the first. That last part is the hardest: by the end of a stack, tiredness shows in the marking.
Most software for exams doesn't help with any of this. OMR sheets only handle bubbled multiple-choice answers. Online tests mean moving students onto screens. Classi takes the answer sheets students already write by hand.
What Classi does with each answer sheet
-
Splits the paper by question
A scanned paper arrives as a stack of page images. Classi separates it into individual responses and matches each to the question it answers, even when an answer continues further down the booklet.
-
Reads handwriting, diagrams and working
Text, equations, labelled diagrams, graphs and rough working are all extracted, so visual answers get graded instead of skipped.
-
Ignores what the student struck out
Crossed-out lines and abandoned drawings count as not attempted and earn no credit, the way an examiner treats them.
-
Marks against your scheme
Each answer is checked against the marking points or level descriptors you supply. A point is awarded when the student conveys what it requires in their own words; a vaguer statement that leaves out what the point tests doesn't earn it.
-
Writes feedback for the student
Alongside the mark, each student gets short, specific feedback on what was missing and how to improve it.
-
Hands it to the teacher to review
Marks are proposed, not published. The review screen shows the original handwriting next to the marking points awarded or withheld, and any mark can be changed in one click.

Every question type on a paper
Multiple choice, assertion–reason, matching, numerical answers, short answers, structured multi-part questions, extended writing, and diagram or practical questions. Multiple-choice answers are checked directly against the answer key, with no AI judgement involved.
Optional questions
"Attempt any two of three" and OR questions are recognised from the question paper, so a student is marked on the questions they chose to answer.
Your board, your scheme
Classi marks against the scheme you upload, whichever board it belongs to. Read more for CBSE and ICSE and IB and Cambridge.
No marking scheme yet?
For an internal test without a written scheme, Classi can draft a model answer and marking points for each question, for the teacher to edit before grading starts.
In use in schools
“Classi is not just a tool, but a true friend to educators — with the potential to be a genuine game-changer.”
“Now that I’ve used Classi, I don’t want to live without it!”
Common questions
What is AI answer sheet evaluation?
You scan students' handwritten answer sheets, and software reads each answer and proposes marks against the school's marking scheme. In Classi, the teacher reviews every proposed mark and piece of feedback before anything reaches students.
Do answer sheets need a special template or OMR format?
No. Classi works with ordinary answer sheets and booklets as students write them, and matches each answer to its question itself.
How does it handle diagrams and crossed-out work?
Diagrams, graphs and figures are graded as part of the answer. Crossed-out or abandoned work is treated as not attempted.
Is the AI's mark final?
No. Every mark is a proposal until the teacher approves it. More on the process in how Classi works.
