AI marking for IB and Cambridge papers

Class tests and mocks, marked the way the mark scheme intends: point by point where it lists marking points, and by best fit where it gives markbands. Your teachers review and approve every mark.

Two kinds of mark scheme, marked two ways

IB and Cambridge mark schemes do two different jobs. Structured questions list the points a response must make, each worth a mark. Extended responses, such as essays, evaluations and many IB criteria, describe levels of performance and leave the examiner to judge which level fits best. A grading tool that treats both the same way gets one of them wrong.

Classi uses the approach the mark scheme calls for. Point-based questions are marked additively: each marking point is credited when the response conveys what it requires, at the scheme's level of specificity. Banded questions are read against every descriptor, judged as a whole, placed in the band that fits best, and given a mark within that band's range. Marks are whole numbers, as on the board's own schemes.

Built around how these papers are set

Paper, mark scheme and insert sorted for you

Upload a question paper, its mark scheme and its insert together. Files named with Cambridge component codes (qp, ms, in) are put in the right place automatically.

Handwritten working, graphs and diagrams

Students' working, sketched graphs and labelled diagrams are extracted from the scan and marked as part of the answer. Crossed-out attempts are not credited.

Credit for meaning, not keywords

A correct answer in the student's own words earns the mark. A vaguer statement that leaves out the specific term or process the point is testing doesn't, which stops the over-marking keyword matching tends to cause.

Feedback a student can act on

Each response comes back with what earned credit, what was missing, and what would move it up a band or a mark.

What it's used for

  1. Mock examinations

Mark a full year group's mocks in days rather than weeks, so students get feedback while there's still time to act on it.

  2. Regular class tests

Set exam-style questions more often, because marking them no longer costs a weekend.

  3. Seeing where a class is weak

Per-question and per-student results show which topics and skills a class hasn't secured, ahead of the real examination.

In use in schools

100,000+ student answers graded and counting.

Common questions

Can AI mark IB and Cambridge papers?

Classi marks school-set IB, IGCSE, AS and A Level style papers against the mark scheme the teacher provides, point by point or by markband as the scheme requires. A teacher reviews every mark before it is released.

How are markbands applied?

Classi reads every band descriptor, judges the response as a whole, selects the best-fitting band and places the mark within its range. A banded mark is never split into per-point scores.

Is Classi affiliated with the IB or Cambridge International?

No. Classi is independent software for a school's own internal assessments. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the International Baccalaureate or Cambridge University Press & Assessment.

Can teachers override the AI's mark?

Always. Every mark is a proposal until a teacher approves it. See how Classi works for the review step.
